Promotional Items to build your brand

Getting the word out there about your business, old or new, isn’t easy. Advertising is expensive, networking is time consuming, and hiring a sales staff isn’t always an option. The term Branding is thrown around in marketing circles quite a bit, but developing a “brand” might be easy, making sure it’s well known, is the tough part.

Business Cards

One of the first things most new business owner invests in is business cards. Not only do they carry your contact information, but they are essentially the most intimate form of branding. They tie a company, accompanied by the visual branding (logo, etc.), directly to a person. Now their direct dealings with you will determine their perception of your brand.

Promotional Products

A gift can be a powerful gesture. Putting a logo on that gift is a gentle reminder of who made the gesture. If most advertising serves as a “reminder” of your product (rather than its discovery), than promotional items used properly can become free advertising to your most targeted customers.

Custom Pens

People use pens every day. It’s one of the most common promotional items, and if there was a downside to using pens, is that it’s been done. Go to any convention and you’ll come back with 25 or more pens. They’re cheap, useful, and (especially in the computer age) you never have one when you really need it.

Promotional Tote Bags and Custom Water Bottles

Promoting green living with your promotions is another nice gesture that can improve the perception of a brand. Re-usable (as opposed to recyclable) items are both appreciated, and USED. They also tend to have a larger display area for your logo…

Stress Ball

For something a bit more fun or even perhaps therapeutic, stress balls can be a great gift. They come in so many shapes and for so many types of businesses; a business owner can really drive home their services. And while these gifts don’t get used every day, they sometimes tend to sit on a desk displayed for the world to see.

There are nearly limitless possibilities when it comes to gifts as a means for branding and promotions. Thinking about your target customer’s needs and habits is the best place to start. Then chose something that either solves a problem or fits into their every-day habits.

Unique Entrepreneurial Business Start Ups

by Curtis D. Tucker

There are many reasons to become an entrepreneur and even a few as to why not to become an entrepreneur. I'll describe the best reasons to be an entrepreneur and hope they give you the inspiration to become one yourself.

Enjoy the read and throw in your own ideas as to why entrepreneurship is a great way to make a living.

1) Being your own boss. There's hardly a better reason to work for yourself other than the fact that you are the boss and you call the shots.

2) Income potential. One of the top reasons to be an entrepreneur is that you are not saddles into a yearly salary. You are free to work hard and earn more money. In many cases there is no limit to the amount of money you can earn.

3) Freedom. You are free to set your own hours, free to work on the things you feel are important, free to try new things, free to experiment. There's freedom to spend more time with family.

4) Diversification. You don't have to put all of your marbles in one jar. You can start multiple streams of income, eliminate ideas that do not work and create residual income that makes you money while you sleep.

5) Excitement and fun. Doing something that you love makes work feel like play. If you can work at something that you enjoy you'll never dread working hard and waking up every day. There's excitement in thinking of new ways to make money.

6) Confidence. Showing yourself and others that you can make a living on your own merit can build great self esteem. Being an entrepreneur will help you become better leader.

7) More creativity. You will become more creative once starting your own business. You'll need to think outside the box and create solutions on the fly. Your creative juices will be in full force as you work your way through marketing, innovating, promoting and problem solving.

8) Satisfaction. There's something to be said for helping out other people. Your product or service will benefit or improve the life of another person which will be very satisfying. Accomplishing your goals and actually having a successful business brings its own satisfaction.

9) It's a challenge. Becoming an entrepreneur will be very challenging and you will run into many road blocks. You'll enjoy figuring things out and overcoming adversity.

10) Security. There won't be much security in the beginning but in the long run you will control your own fate. There are no layoffs, no downsizing and no wondering if your job is on the line. A successful entrepreneur will not only bring security to himself but can also bring security to the family and children that might one day take over the business.

Business Ideas and Cool Start Ups

by Curtis D. Tucker

One of the best shows on television today for entrepreneurs is a show called Shark Tank. This is a great show for finding fun business ideas and also seeing what others have come up with. Watch as young entrepreneurs pitch their businesses and ask for money. Be sure and note the amount of money they ask for and how much control of their companies they lose.

Not only does the show give you start up ideas but the Sharks on the show give some very useful advise and they ask even more important questions. All of the Sharks on the show have made millions or billions on their own and they are using their own money to finance these start ups.

When you watch the show be sure to note the questions being asked. These are the same questions you will need to answer when you go looking for financing your business. The show can give you clues as to which types of products and services the entrepreneurial gurus feel have potential.

Hop on over to this page to see many of the past business ideas and then be sure to start watching the show. Shark Tank Business Ideas.

Try Flipping Websites

by Curtis D. Tucker

Flipping websites can be very profitable for those that are in tune with Internet real estate. Flipping domains and websites is very much like buying and selling "real" real estate. You buy or build low and sell high.

Building websites from the ground up can make you the most profit but it takes some web building knowledge and does entail man hours. Buying small websites and flipping them is much faster but less profitable.

With the popularity of Wordpress this has become much easier than in the "old" days of the Internet. A small amount of web design knowledge can be turned into a high profit business.

Why would someone buy a website from you? Because they want to invest in real estate property but they do not have the time to build sites and wait for them to rise in the search engine rankings. High traffic websites full of original content can make big bucks. A popular website that is full of advertising is a great little profit center.

The more traffic you get, the more ads are clicked on and the more products get sold. Most profit from today's websites comes from advertising and from subscriptions. If you have a large user base and email list you might have a site worth some money also.

Simple subjects can actually be the best sites to sell. I know of a simple niche website that listed nothing but names. These name lists combined with some related articles created a decent amount of traffic. With nothing other than these names and the traffic, the site sold for an amount in the five figure range.

You can build smaller, low traffic sites and flip them for a few hundred dollars here and there. Great domains can also be purchased and sold.

Another route that I will get into later is to build yourself a collection of these sites and live off of the advertising dollars. A few dozen websites making $5-$20 a day can add up. This is where you might become the buyer instead of the seller. More on that later.

Be an Internet mogul today!!

Entrepreneurial Use of the Internet

by Curtis D. Tucker

The greatness of the Internet is that you can become an expert overnight. Use your knowledge and expertise to write articles, write blog posts and upload how-to videos. Fill your website with as much original content about your niche as you can. Your pages will get indexed and people will start linking to you. All of this leads to you being thought of as an expert in your field.

There are many websites and blogs with photography tips. These sites are very popular and garner huge amounts of traffic. If you are in a niche field it will be even easier for you to rank higher and look like an expert.

Let others use your articles as long as they link back to you. The free publicity and link juice in invaluable. Don't share all of your content, but just enough to help market your site.

Free marketing online can help increase your sales and client base. Use every resource available online. Create your own website, your own blog, a Facebook business page, a Twitter account, get LinkedIn, build a Squidoo page and enroll in all free sites related to your business.

My personal blog and personal photos recently helped me find myself on the homepage of CNN.com, which included a photo, article and link to my site. This same photo will be used in an upcoming national magazine. Other unrelated photos were used on a statewide TV news station with the printed address to my blog.

Put yourself and your business out there in any way that you can. The more information and content you have online, the better chances you will have of being found. You can never have enough content online. Get in the habit of writing at least one new article a week. Submit to article websites and ask about writing for related magazines and blogs.

Tag every photo you put online with the best possible keywords. Your images will get picked up on search engine image searches which does increase traffic. The Internet is the ultimate marketing tool and in most cases it is absolutely free!

Start A Cupcake Shop Baby!

by Curtis D. Cupcakes are all the rage and finding original cupcakes that knock your socks off can be a daunting task in most towns and cities. If your town does not have a fantastic bakery that sells cupcakes I can almost guarantee there is a need.

Almost anyone can make cupcakes so you will need to sell more than batter and frosting. You'll need to sell a quality, originality, service or uniqueness that others do not have. Think about unique ways of decorating, unusual wrappers, funky packaging and other hot selling points.

Making ends meet with just cupcakes might be stretching it so be prepared to also offer small cakes, cookies and other fun pastries. Be the alternative to the local donut shop. A great coffee, hot chocolate and tea selection can make the difference. Don't forget about awesome lemonade in the summer and apple cider in the winter.

Also think about other marketing strategies like creative decorations, whimsical designing, fun uniforms, memorable cupcake names, retro furniture, stylish promotional items and any other factor that will set you apart.

Offer a place for tea parties, poem readings, showers and other celebrations. Use fun cartoon characters to help attract those young whipper snappers and senior discounts to draw the old fogies.

Do your research and make sure you have your ducks in a row before jumping in head first. The food industry has many hoops you'll have to jump through so be sure you understand the rules and regulations in your area.

Now start baking and send me a picture of your shop once it's open!

Entrepreneurial Idea - Photo Organizer

by Curtis D. Tucker

Here's a service I might actually use. I need someone to take all of my family photos and organize them. They need to be sorted and placed into photo albums. I also need someone to take my digital photos and have many of them printed and the others placed into digital albums.

If you have the patience you can easily start this type of business with very little start up. Advertise yourself as a family photo organizer. Explain to clients the time you can save them and also the benefit of preserving photos in albums rather than envelopes.

You can create family albums, an album for each child, wedding albums, vacation albums and even pet albums. Once your service is up and running you can send reminders so that you get a call once the next batch of photos has been taken.

Organized photo albums not only help families save time but they make great gifts! What could be better than to present mom with a very organized album with all of the kids pictures. Parents can also present the kids with their own albums at graduation time.

Digital photography is another great opportunity. Why not help families upload their photos to Flickr or many other photo sharing websites? Turning photos into easy to view CD's is also an option. Add a slide show with fades and music. Photo CD's make great Christmas gifts to friends and family.

Get busy thinking of how you can start your own photo organizing business. Be the first in your town or city and you'll be the go-to person in your area. A great business to start part-time if needed.

Much success!!

Entrepreneurial Idea - The Laundry Folder

by Curtis D. Tucker

An idea. What if you could create an efficient service that would go from house to house helping women fold their laundry? The number one complaint I hear from mother's is that they hate to do the laundry, and they really hate to fold it.

Can you create a service that could make this easier for them? Could you pick up the clean laundry in special bags and bring it back ironed and folded in special baskets? Could they drop off the laundry, have it folded and then pick it up again? Can you invent something that would eliminate folding?

That is your mission - solve the case of the unfolded laundry.

Traits of an Entrepreneur

by Curtis D. Tucker

I don't believe just anyone can be an entrepreneur. Well, anyone CAN be an entrepreneur but not everyone will have the motivation to become one. These traits can be found in just about anyone but the people that put them into practice are the ones that will become entrepreneurs.

All entrepreneurs won't have all of these traits, but if you fall into a few of these categories you might have a future as an entrepreneur:

1. Positive attitude. Negative people are most likely not going to make very successful entrepreneurs. A positive attitude will rub off on fellow employees, clients and customers. Show some excitement about your business and others will see it and want to be a part of it.

2. Dreamer. An entrepreneur has dreams. They are not content with the everyday and mundane. Deep down they want more and they are always thinking of ways to get it. They expect more than they have and see a path to getting there. Entrepreneurs do not settle for what everyone else has, they strive for more.

3. Hard worker. Most entrepreneurs ignore the 40 hour work week. They do what it takes to get ahead and the create the steps it will take to reach the top. Entrepreneurs don't complain about having to work hard to achieve their dreams. Hard work is the foundation that leads to a life of leisure once the goal is achieved.

4. Never give up attitude. Every entrepreneur that has given up has failed. Failing is a part of success and an entrepreneur can see that fact. Small failures help you see where the successes are. A true entrepreneur most likely couldn't give up even if they tried. It's in their blood.

5. Doer. An old friend always told us that were talkers and there were doers. An entrepreneur does more than talk. They actually put a plan into action. The best time to get started is immediately. The longer you wait the more chances there will be for interruptions.

6. Creativity. Entrepreneurs are by definition out-of-the-box thinkers. An entrepreneur has to innovate a new way of doing something or improve upon an existing product or service. Entrepreneurs also create things that have not been thought of before. If you are a creative thinker you most likely are an entrepreneur.

7. Multi-tasker. I believe an entrepreneur is a multi-tasker. When creating a business, service or product there are many facets involved. An entrepreneur has to perform many duties while creating their dream and they must perform multiple tasks at the same time.

8. Self motivated. Entrepreneurs do not need to be pushed. They push themselves and want to strive for success because that can't help it. Self motivation separates entrepreneurs from pretenders.

9. Passionate. If an entrepreneur isn't passionate about their business they most likely will lose motivation. An entrepreneur usually creates a business out of something that really interests them. Passion creates drive.

10. Luck. The wild card of entrepreneurial traits is luck. Some people make it to the top on pure luck. They create the right product at the right time or they get to meet the right person to help market their ideas. Luck doesn't always play a role in creating an entrepreneur but it can never hurt.

If you have all or many of these traits you might the next great entrepreneur. There are many traits that I left off because I do not believe they fit the everyday typical person. For example, risk taking. I do not believe you must be a risk taker to become an entrepreneur. If you have a plan and follow it there will not be much risk at all.

Innovative is another trait I left off. I don't believe you have to innovate anything to become an entrepreneur. Most products and services are already there. If you'll just improve upon one of them you can become an entrepreneur.

And as stated above in trait number 10, sometime it's just pure luck that creates a sensation. But luck will not help you if you're not creating something. So get out there and start thinking of ways to become the next great entrepreneur!

Start Your Own Magazine

by Curtis D. Tucker

That's right. Start your own magazine. Creating a magazine is not as difficult as it was in the old days. Computers and easy to use software have made it very possible to layout and design your own rag.

All you need is an idea, niche or specialty. A few magazine ideas would be: photography tips and examples, how to bake and recipes, repairing your own car, local or community news and events, gardening and landscape lessons, how to homeschool, gadget reviews, report on a sports team, scrapbooking articles, etc.

Your first question might be as to how you can afford to get a magazine produced and printed. Well, it's not all that difficult any longer. You can purchase the equipment and do it yourself or you can hire the right people to put it together for you.

To design a magazine you will need a graphic designer or software, a reporter/writer, a photographer and possibly a salesman to sell ad space. You can hire out for all of these positions or you and family members can do the work yourself.

The next step is getting the magazine printed. Thanks to new websites like Magcloud.com you no longer need the backing of million dollar investors. With services like these you can have a single issue printed only when a customer orders one. There's no investment and no inventory! These sites even help you sell and market your magazine.

Marketing the magazine would be the last step. The Internet is the perfect place to begin. Sites like Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace help you connect with potential readers. Build a website using your keywords and create an online readership. You can also market your magazine to local bookstores, local clubs and interested friends.

Viral marketing (word of mouth) can really get things going. Create a fun, informative magazine and you could be on your way to financial freedom.

We're thinking of starting our own magazine and will show you step by step the process we take to get it created.

Think Like An Entrepreneur

by Curtis D. Tucker

If you don't think like one, how can you become one? I spent many years saying to myself, "I wish I was an entrepreneur." I never thought, in my mind, that I would become one. That is the mistake many people face today. How are you going to become a successful entrepreneur if you don't wake up every morning thinking like one?

The first step in anything is believing that you can do it. You MUST say to yourself every day that you are an entrepreneur and you are creating the steps that are building your empire. You must believe that you can do it before any else is going to believe it.

An entrepreneur is always looking for business ideas and new ways of improving their current position. Entrepreneurs research new ideas and look deep into creating new concepts and improvements on existing ideas. Don't waste a single day sitting idly by waiting for an idea to come to you. You have to make the idea happen!

Think of ways to create a service that has never been offered before. Combine two services to create a new one. Find a way to improve an existing product and make it better than ever before. Discover a way of doing something that has never been tried. These are the types of ideas that create successful entrepreneurs. You must make something remarkable, memorable and mentionable.

That's thinking like an entrepreneur. You should be jotting down ideas at every red light, every lunch and every place of business you frequent. Always write down your ideas. If not, you WILL forget them. Research, study and read. The more information you have the more powerful you will become. I promise!

Stop thinking like an employee and start thinking like an entrepreneur! Every person on the planet COULD start their own business if they believed they could. Tucker

The recession is here and many hard working people are losing their jobs. This is not a time to feel glum and wonder where your next job might be. This is the time to become an entrepreneur and start your own thriving business!

Control your own destiny and earn as much money as you possibly can. A recession can be a great time to start a new business. Many people that would never go out on their own are now being forced to find other avenues of income. Even if you have job you might want to consider starting one of these businesses on the side. You never know when "the man" might let you go.

These are just ideas to get you started. I will try to come back soon with more detail on how to start many of these business ventures.

1. Residential and commercial cleaning. Individuals and businesses need their stuff cleaned. We currently have a housekeeper that drives a nicer car than I do. Hook up with some small businesses or a network of households. A well organized, reliable cleaning service will attract great viral marketing and can grow very quickly.

2. Professional organizer. This is not about straightening a closet. This is like being a personal assistant. Help busy people take care of their dry cleaning, shopping and bill paying. Set up a schedule to meet with several clients a week and work out a system to help them stay on schedule and get things done.

3. Home improvement. This is a great business and an easy start up. Most everyone needs a fence fixed, a faucet washer replaced or a room painted. Get the word out that you do handy man jobs and your business will grow into a full blown home improvement company in no time.

4. IT services. If you know a bit about computers your skills are needed! I don't know how many times I am asked to help people set up their email accounts. Help people hook up their computers, teach companies how to network their computers and even teach a class on how to surf the Internet.

5. House or pet sitting. If you are reliable and honest you can make money just house sitting. This is a great part-time job and especially works for singles. Get the word out to family ad friends and start your business today!

6. Second-hand goods. Find a really inexpensive location and sell used merchandise. The more unique your items the more word will spread. Keep your inventory changing and you'll have many return shoppers. Auctions, garage sales and eBay are great locations to find second-hand goods.

7. eBay seller. Expand on the idea above and sell on eBay. Although eBay is not what it once was it is still a viable place to start a niche business. Find a product you are passionate about and you should do fine. Create an easy to follow procedure for packaging and shipping and things should run like clock work.

8. Secretarial services. Many individuals now have a computer, printer and e-mail – which makes a perfect situation to help businesses with typing, newsletter writing and many other small office projects. This is a job you can do at home and send everything electronically.

9. Tutoring. If you know something about something this can be a great job for you. Teach students and prepare them for college or teach adults that are lacking in certain business skills. The door is wide open and you can pick your own niche.

10. Web design. If you know the slightest thing about web design you should be able to start your own business. The majority of companies in the U.S. still do not have their own websites! Help businesses create simple brochure websites and charge for updates. Learning HTML is not that difficult and this is a great home based business.

Start your business today! Just talking about it won't get it done. Immediately go to Google and start researching your business idea. Come up with a name for your company before the end of the day. When you wake up tomorrow you'll be enthused and you'll know that you now control your own destiny.

Good luck!

Start A Music Teaching Studio

by Curtis D. Tucker

Turn your musical talents into profit. If play an instrument you could easily turn those talents into a teaching opportunity. Teaching kids can be very profitable and very rewarding.

Begin by advertising to parents and posting ads at schools and recreational locations. Start with one student have them spread the word for you. Viral marketing in this business could save you from having to spend any marketing money at all.

Possible costs involved would be the instruments, music books, rent and advertising. Teach your students the history of their instrument, how to hold it, how to clean it, how to tune and how to play. If you don't think you are an expert on your instrument just teach beginner classes.

What if you don't have a musical bone in your body? Be an entrepreneur! Start your own studio by bringing talented musicians together with interested clients. You provide or rent the studio space and market the business while studio musicians come in to teach your students.

Advertise for both musicians and people looking for lessons. Once you have enough interest you can start matching the two together. Your studio could be unique because it could be teaching lessons on multiple instruments.

You could also advertise online, start a blog and even teach with podcasts. You could use YouTube to display videos of you playing or teaching and market those to your client base.

You could also research and teach young bands how to become better bands. Teach them the business side of being a musician and help them learn the ins and outs of travel, set up and booking the right gigs. You could even become a part time manager/promoter.

You might even start a local service brokering lessons. You could build a system that brings teachers with students and charge a nominal fee. Think outside of the box! The Internet has opened new doors never even imagined before. Use every resource at your disposal and create your own great music business.

Make Money With Google AdSense

by Curtis D. Tucker

Welcome to the website fellow entrepreneurs! I'm glad you found me and I hope in some small way I can help you create your future and become this countries next entrepreneur.

I'm going to start out with a quick and easy idea. This money earning system, once created, becomes a cash cow that continues to earn money while you move on to other things or go on vacation. It involves buying a domain name, finding a web host and learning to create a simple website or blog.

The system is called Google AdSense. I use it to create almost one half of my yearly income so I know it can work. It does take effort, time and hours of trial and error. But once perfected it is an awesome supplement to any online entrepreneurs career.

In the simplest terms you earn money by creating a website that generates a good amount of traffic. 1,000-6,000 unique visitors a day would be a good amount of traffic. The secret is to create a website that is built on keywords that are being searched for but do not have so much competition that you do not stand a chance of reaching the top spot in the search engines.

From my experience, my research and seeing the stats of fellow AdSense publishers I would say that you can earn about $100 a day for every 20,000 page views you get. That's an average. A limited number of publishers earn tens of thousands of dollars a month with Google AdSense.

Once you have an idea you build a website around your keywords. You then begin to fill that website with as much great content as you can. All of the content should relate to the keywords chosen. Generate as many pages as possible and add new pages every week.

As soon as your site is up and running you will want to open a free Google AdSense account. Google will supply you with a code to place on your website. Place this code on every page of your site. Immediately your site will begin to display small text ads that relate directly to your keywords.

Each time a visitor to your site clicks on one of these ads you earn money. The amount will depend on the keyword targeted and the budget of the business buying the ad. The average click can range from one penny to $6. Every month Google will send you a check for the total you have earned.

After creating your first money making site, start again and create another. The key to making big bucks is to create as many of these content rich websites as you can. Some will fail and others will only earn a few bucks a month. The combination of many sites will begin to earn you real revenue.

There is an entire industry built on teaching you how to earn Google AdSense money. Read as much as you can online and keep after it! I will post more AdSense tips from time to time.
